Retreat FAQ:

Why we continue to return to Costa Rica. This small country, around the size of Switzerland, has made some decisions that many other countries, (including our own) could learn from. They have no standing army and have chosen to invest in education and health care for the people. As a result, it has a healthier, more bi or tri-lingual, educated population. Costa Rica has set aside many acres of land to retain land, forests, rivers, and all the natural beauty that abounds. It is for these reasons we choose to support the Pura Vida lifestyle and continue to offer retreats to this magnificent country. You will meet people from all over the world, and surprisingly, not that many Americans. And yes, the food is amazing. The energy of CR contributes to a beautiful retreat setting, with adventure, peaceful relaxation, animals, amazing birds, and so much more.

I often share with my students that while there is no such thing as complete safety in this world, there are ways to be a safe person. Being prepared, finding reasonable flights, being with a group of yogis, having transportation built in, creates a ā€œno worriesā€ environment that we can all share. Our group will be small enough for plenty of personal attention. You will be practicing yoga safely with experienced teachers.

What are the important features? I put this question out to the group of people already booked into the retreat. The following is what came back to me:

We discussed having the opportunity to travel on a deeper level, travel as an expansive experience, vacating ā€œnormalā€ life, experiencing community, broadening the meaning of practice, and more.

It is important to have this experience for the following reasons: To see Costa Rica, Deepen your practice, make connections, see the flora and fauna, to be your best self, love new experiences, to learn, to ā€œthrow yourself into the deep end of the unknown,ā€ to go somewhere exotic, deepen spiritual life, meet new people, immerse yourself in yoga, go on an inner journey, be around mature people, and last but not least, ā€œThe Vortex!ā€ I will add in that you typically come back from a yoga retreat feeling healthier and more energetic then when you arrived.

Absolutely. We want you to have the perfect mix of activity and rest, solitude and community, and time to wander, reflect, get on a hammock, feel the gentle breezes, watch the birdsā€¦.

February is considered the best month to visit Costa Rica, with good chances of dry, sunny weather. It is the height of the dry season. You can expect 80s to low 90s at the peak of the day, with 60ā€™s-70ā€™s at night. You donā€™t need to pack much! We will send you a packing list as we get closer to the trip.

The teachers are super experienced and welcome brand-new yogis to the mix. The classes are suitable for everyone, all ages. It will be a fabulous introduction to the art and science of yoga! A real plus to your experience.

Yes! You do not need to pack any yoga equipment for this trip.

Yes, they can follow your dietary guidelines. The food will be delicious and healthy.

What are my options? If you want to share a room, we can arrange that for you. Or you may choose to book a single room and have it all to yourself. There are advantages to traveling solo. You will likely make some new friends while on this retreat! If you wish to fly with others in the group, that can be arranged. We fly into the Liberia, CR, airport, a smaller airport, easy to navigate.

Yes, we recommend an arrival on Feb 13 or 14, book a stay (or email Kara request to share a room) at the Hilton Garden Inn for a night or two before we head to the lodge. This will give you time to relax after traveling. Unless you choose to stay in CR after the retreat, most people will fly home on February 22. It is best to book a late morning or early afternoon flight that day.

Anywhere from 10-16. We will have the entire place to ourselves (no other travelers or groups) which makes for a super comfortable atmosphere while at the lodge. It will be our home for the week!

Absolutely. A new feature offered in travel insurance is called, ā€œcancel for any reason.ā€ The insurance you buy will pay you back stated amounts if you must cancel your trip. There are many options available.

Yes. After your initial deposit, you may set up a payment plan on the We Travel site or have us set it up for you. In addition, you can make payments of any amount whenever you wish. Final payments must be made by January 7, 2025.

This is a secure payment company that we have contracted with to take deposits and make payments to the Lodge. On the site you will find detailed information on the trip, including a daily itinerary. If you would prefer to pay by other means, just let us know.

This scenario is not likely. Should something happen that requires cancelling the retreat, all deposits will be returned to you.

Send Kara an email who will answer your questions promptly.  kara@karakeatingyoga.com
